As we move through life and get older, we begin to understand what it is to leave the next generation better than we had it.  Also, there are times when we need to sit down and help those with their vision of purpose.

Following Jesus’ crucifixion, He appeared to the disciples while they were fishing, with little progress.  Reading John 21:15-25, an unknown man instructs the fishermen to throw their nets on the other side of the boat, they catch many fish and begin to eat breakfast.  Following breakfast, Jesus questions Simon Peter on his Love for Him and Purpose.

Quick Dialogue (v15-17):

Jesus:  Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?
Simon Peter:  Yes, Lord.  You know that I love you.
Jesus:  Fed my lambs.

Jesus:  Simon son of John, do you love me?
Simon Peter:  Yes Lord, you know that I love you.
Jesus:  Take care of my sheep.

Jesus:  Simon son of John, do you love me?
Peter:  Lord, you know all things, you know that I love you.
Jesus:  Feed my sheep.

If you notice, Jesus is pressing Simon Peter, and in turn, Simon Peter is becoming frustrated that he is being questioned.  However, going back in time, it was Simon Peter that denied Jesus three times when questioned if he knew him, prior to crucifixion.

At this time, two things happened.

  1. Jesus is helping Simon Peter understand Love and Forgiveness.
  2. Peter is receiving the gift of his Purpose.  Taking care of all God’s people:
    • Lambs – Young in Christ
    • Sheep – Experience with God’s word

Moving forward with the rest of the chapter, (v 18-25), Jesus explains that as time moves forward, Peter is to follow Jesus’ lead and always seek a connection with God.  Do not point at others and where they are regarding sanctification, or Oneness with God.  Instead, be an upright example and Help Others through Love and Understanding.

Some related verses in Galatians 6:1-10, we are to bear anyone’s burdens.

  • Help others that have transgressed (sinned)
  • Don’t be tempted, Pray for the tempted and transgressors.
  • What you sew, you will reap.
  • Do what you do for the Right Reasons.  Have the Holy Spirit in you, no other motives.
  • Do not give up doing good and helping others.
  • Bond with those who have a foundation with God.

In summary,

  • Belief in Jesus and being connected to the Holy Spirit will Provide.
  • Jesus restores Peter as the leader of the disciples.
  • Do not look at others and their decisions (passing judgement) > Look at yourself
